The Isobel Journal
The Isobel Journal - Isobel Harrop
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, first of all, wow. How random was that? Secondly, wow. How relatable was that! Isobel is a teenage girl who is from a place (as the book cover suggests) where nothing really happens. And she dedicates this book to the people who feel the same way. She fancies drawing the places that she sees, the people that she encounters, and she's a cute little indie, too.

Long story short, she lives in her own simple world. And personally, that's the beauty of this book. The sketches are so cute and it's as if it's not trying to impress you. Believe me or not, you could actually feel the humility of it!

Flipping through the pages, I find it a completely fun ride, even if it's just around 200 pages and I get to finish it in less than 15 minutes. Haha!

The Isobel Journal is such a creative, quirky piece of art and I can't even begin to write down how much I find this girl, literally, like me!

Hopeless
Hopeless - Colleen Hoover
I just need to point out that Hopeless is soooooo beautiful indeed, so I'm not at all surprised by the ridiculously high average rating (it did intrigue me, though).

Unfortunately, due to my biased need to search for a certain type of genre, I expected too much from it.

To set the record straight, it is a wonderful read. However, the plot for me was too predictable and cliché. I'd go into detail, but I don't want to risk spoilers for those who are planning to read this book.

I'm basing my rating off of a personal note — especially how my first impression of Holder was filled with audible sighs and eye rolls. Not good.

Still, I loved the writing style and the way the author felt very welcoming with this book. Four stars! (Not to mention I love the Acknowledgements hehe)

Just One Year
Just One Year - Gayle Forman
For me, this book is far more improved than the first one. I'm starting to consider the reason I gave the first book 3 stars was because I was more interested about finding out more of Willem. Sooner did I realize that all my questions would be answered by this book. So much for closure.

Love Letters to the Dead
Love Letters to the Dead - Ava Dellaira
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

---------
Excerpt from the book:

"[But] it made me think of how sometimes when you feel so much, you have to find a way to let it out.”

Sky smiled. “I hope we’ll both find the words for it.”

---------

Well, let me tell you: Ava Dellaira definitely found words for it. Love Letters to the Dead is so beautifully written and profound that I would often stop to reread the outstanding context. Never have I thought that anyone could grasp phrases that would make so much sense. Ava Dellaira nailed everything perfectly, capturing my heart at the very beginning of the book.

Apart from the actual writing, I'd honestly say that the main character of the book, Laurel, didn't annoy me like (literally) all of the female narrators I've ever read did. Which is saying a lot.

If you're looking for a well-written, angsty book to read, this is a 100% recommendation.

Just One Day
Just One Day - Gayle Forman
I felt neutral upon finishing this book, although not necessarily weighing it as a negative remark. Pardon my lack of sympathy (or my heart cold as stone), but I just didn't have that certain emotion people kept giddying on about.

Overall, it was a fair read.

The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend - Kody Keplinger
I originally gave this book 4 stars but after months of doubt and rethinking, I lowered it down to a 3. Okay, so it used to be 4 because you know, perks of having the same name. Hehe.

Anyway, this book for me... not so much. I could only count the times the main character actually swooned me. Also, Bianca is so stubborn I'm actually wondering if the author intended her to be like that. Way to ruin the "family name". *insert punch line drum roll*

Surrender
Surrender - Sonya Hartnett
Despite having trouble with the writing style, I did love the psycho-thriller atmosphere of it. Like all those flowery words have so much more inside of them.

Ignite Me
Ignite Me - Tahereh Mafi
First of all, I hate you Elijah and Alex for involving me in this series in the first place (well, not hate but you get me).

Admitting that the first book of this series was a letdown (4 stars because of Kenji, you'll probably understand), the third and final book is simply a masterpiece for me. The character development of each person pains me, the writing style has improved so much. Long story short, I fell in love with this finale despite the sudden and rushed ending.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful piece of art in this industry.

P.S. Mafi should consider writing chick lit some other time, no?

Shatter Me
Shatter Me - Tahereh Mafi
This book was recommended to me by a friend. At first, the constant strikethroughs and metaphors (which most of the time, made NO sense at all) bothered me so much I threatened to not even finish the book.

But in spite of all that, I found the plot very original and entertaining that as I managed to bear with it after all.

Attachments
Attachments - Rainbow Rowell
I love Rainbow Rowell and likewise to this book. I may not like it as much as Eleanor & Park but Attachments was very nostalgic.

However, my only problem with this book is that I expected it to be more of a romance rather than a slow-paced-stalking-and-not-telling-who-i-am-until-the-last-30-pages kind of book.

And, I don't know, I really didn't any chemistry with both of the main characters. But there are a few moments wherein this book made me all giddy. Not much, but it was worth the 4 stars.

We Were Liars
We Were Liars - E. Lockhart
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honest to say, there are no words to describe how amazing this book is. The writing style was a little bit off for me, but I didn't mind it that much.

This has been one of the craftiest piece of fiction that I have ever read. I have to admit, I was a little bit intimidated (I think I still am) because this book absolutely deserves all the attention it needs once it should be published.

This book literally blew me away (okay, maybe not literally). Very original, very creative. Follow the advice, and don't spoil it to anyone because it is, in fact, worth it.

The Summer I Found You
The Summer I Found You - Jolene Perry
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

When I first read the plot, I was really looking forward for a fast, enjoyable, and great read. I was really expecting a lot from this book despite the cover making me reluctant (and I had not mistaken).

This book was a major disappointment. For the first few chapters I was really hoping for the plot to move a little faster: less immaturity, more of the important keys. But honestly, nothing. The relationship seemed to look so forced with the predictable background.

The major characters weren't helping either, and I mean Kate. She is one of the most self-centered characters I have ever encountered and it bothers me how I actually scowl while reading her perspective. Aidan (or Aiden, also a sub point for the 2 stars because I have no idea if the author couldn't decide if she loved to spell the name more with an A or an E) wasn't much of an improvement either. Throughout my just-get-on-with-it phase, I really expected him to make me continue on flipping the pages but he was just as bland as Kate. There could've been so much more to his character but he's been drowned by the stereotype that it just annoyed me to proceed.

Also, why would you name a book THE SUMMER I FOUND YOU when there is literally no sign of summer in the story?

Overall, the book was an 'okay' read, but it just really did not reach my expectations.

Love, Loss, and What I Wore
Love, Loss, and What I Wore - Ilene Beckerman
I'm not even sure if this is hardly even a book in as much as it's more of a scrapbook art material thing with little to no substance. However, the fashion sense and little minimalist sketches of the book was entertaining. I loved the idea of telling little stories throughout clothing.

Love & Misadventure
Love & Misadventure - Lang Leav
On a personal note, I'm not a big fan of poetry. They're too mysterious, they're too vague. Long story short, I've always regarded that they are not for my liking.

However, Love & Misadventure really won me over. Everything was just beautiful and tragic and definitely heartbreaking and wow. Oh my god. It's like the world of poetry is giving me another chance.
